How to set goals and achieve them – a mentoring project for school children

Nowadays, mentoring is one of the most effective catalysts of the company in any profession or project. It allows active development of soft skills – teamwork, effective planning, generate creative ideas.

The SDF was pleased to support the social mission of the mentoring project «Winning the Minds» of NU ALUMNI (learn more).

The aim of the project is to raise the level of awareness, to set goals correctly and to organize ways of achieving them for teenagers in secondary school (with emphasis on children from socially vulnerable categories).

As part of its implementation, Alumni of Nazarbayev University share their own experience with the younger generation, helping to develop the professional skills of schoolchildren between the ages of 14 and 17.

This year the second stage of the project is underway. As a result of the first stage, the mentors noted that participants had grown considerably, becoming more open and confident. The success of friends is noticed by their classmates, some of whom also want to join the project. In addition, the mentors themselves have a lot to learn from the young mentees. There is a kind of exchange of knowledge and positive energy.

The Project Coordinator-NU Alumni Media Manager noted: «We are planning to expand the geography of «Winning the Minds» to involve pupils from other regions rather than from the capital. But we are not chasing a big number. First of all, the project members are results-oriented. The aim of our mentors is to become a friend to their mentees, a mentor to whom to turn with any question, receiving both informational and moral support».
