Kazakhstan Society of Researches in Education (KERA)

In August 2014, the Kazakhstan Educational Research Association (KERA) was created at the initiative of 14 experts.

KERA’s activities aim to promote, develop, and stimulate the field of high-quality scientific research in the field of education, involving qualified scientists and the corresponding application of the results.

In 2014, the European Educational Research Association (EERA) admitted KERA as a member. Today, EERA members are public associations from 38 countries.

Every year, KERA members take part in the European Conference on Educational Research.

Today KERA has 240 active members.

Key events in 2020:

  • 420 education professionals involved in activities aimed at developing and stimulating research in educations
  • 7 pedagogical universities of Kazakhstan created a consortium of researchers
  • Conducted online sessions on research ethics for pedagogical universities
  • An Ethical Code of Researchers in Education has been developed to create preconditions for the formation of a Kazakhstani system for ensuring research

NU Alumni

The Social Development Fund seeks to develop a sense of belonging, solidarity, and self-realization of Nazarbayev University students. Our graduates are friends who met within their native alma mater walls and continue to support each other even after graduation.

NU Alumni is a voluntary public association of Nazarbayev University graduates, opened in October 2018 to promote cultural, intellectual, creative, and social cooperation. The association members contribute to the popularization of the university in Kazakhstan, abroad and promote its interests.

Today, the Association includes more than 620 people.

During the cooperation between the Fund and the public association, more than 3.5 thousand alumni attended events aimed at developing networking, increasing competencies, and also strengthening relations between alumni and the University.

Members of the public association take an active citizenship, participating in the social and public life of the country.

In 2020, NU Alumni members took part in the #bizbirgemiz movement to contain the spread of COVID-19.

In addition, a number of representatives of the association are effectively working in the Academic Council of Nazarbayev University as observers.

NU Alumni Projects

With the support of the Fund, in 2020, members of «NU Alumni» implemented a number of projects and events. Among them:

IdeaTHON – Contest of ideas to solve the problems caused by the COVID-19
Disability Talks on disability and inclusion in society
Winning the Minds – is a graduate mentoring program for disadvantaged children
Mind games with the aim of developing networking between alumni and developing interest in various fields of science, creativity and art
E-Tutor.kz – social educational project to improve the competence of secondary school students in the main subjects of the school curriculum

Graduates of Nazarbayev University who recognize its charter and wish to contribute to implementing the main goals and objectives of the association can become members of the NU Alumni public association.

Young Researchers Alliance (YRA)

The Young Researchers Alliance (YRA) was founded in 2018 by several graduates of Nazarbayev University. Asiya Ermukhambetova, a graduate of the Talap program of the Nazarbayev University Social Development Fund and a postdoctoral student, is the leader and inspirer of YRA.

YRA goal

IThe goal is to create a favorable soil for our Republic’s young talents’ development and growth and establish contact between scientists of the faculty and students of Kazakhstan and foreign educational institutions for fruitful cooperation and assistance in science development.

Who is a YRA member

YRA participants are employees and graduates of universities in Kazakhstan and abroad with a master’s degree or Ph.D. or their equivalent. YRA includes representatives from science fields: technology, engineering, humanities, medicine, social sciences, etc.

It unites young scientists from 12 Kazakhstani and 7 foreign universities.

260 members from STEM, humanitarian and social sciences.

YRA events in collaboration with the Social Development Fund in 2020

1,700 + people took part in events aimed at creating a collaboration of young scientists, academicians and specialists from industry.

16 Nazarbayev University students received grants for research under the FRIP (FosteringResearchandInnovationPotential) program. For young scientists, this served as an impetus to continue scientific research.

YRA representatives took part in the working groups of the Science Committee of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan, and also became members of the club of young experts under the Senate of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

Plans for the future

YRA continues to attract more talents and already established experts in science, both in Kazakhstan and abroad, to strengthen professional relations and support between YRA members.
