From September 9 to 11, 2026, the School of Computing and Artificial Intelligence (SCAI) and the Institute of Smart Systems and Artificial Intelligence (ISSAI) at Nazarbayev University jointly hosted the 1st International Conference and Workshop on Mathematics and Artificial Intelligence with the support of NU Impact Foundation.
The conference brought together researchers, mathematicians, and specialists in data analytics and artificial intelligence from Kazakhstan and other countries to exchange knowledge and explore new opportunities at the intersection of mathematics, artificial intelligence, machine learning, and data science.
The conference was co-chaired by Dr. Atakan Varol, General Director of ISSAI and Dean of SCAI, and Dr. Durvudkhan Suragan, Vice Dean for Research and Innovation at SCAI. Nazarbayev University President Dr. Waqar Ahmad officially welcomed the participants and researchers from Kazakhstan and abroad.
The event brought together representatives of Astana IT University, L.N. Gumilyov Eurasian National University, Buketov Karaganda National Research University, Kyoto University of Advanced Science, SDU University, Heriot-Watt International Faculty, K. Zhubanov Aktobe Regional University, University of Manchester, and other academic and research institutions.
A delegation from the Institute of Mathematics and Mathematical Modeling, headed by Professor Mamhmud Sadybekov, made a special contribution to the academic programme. The participation of the Institute’s representatives strengthened professional exchange and collaboration between the mathematics and AI research communities.
Over the three days, participants discussed recent developments in mathematics and artificial intelligence, current challenges in machine learning, and promising directions for further research and interdisciplinary collaboration.
The first international conference on mathematics and artificial intelligence provided a platform for strengthening academic ties between researchers from Kazakhstan and international universities and fostering dialogue between mathematics, artificial intelligence, and data analytics.
NU Impact Foundation served as a partner and co-organiser of the event, supporting the conference and the development of research collaboration in mathematics and artificial intelligence.
