12 winning teams received grants from NU SDF for implementation of social projects

On 1 October, the awards ceremony for the winners of the Jas Social Impact competition of the NU Social Development Fund was held. The event participants were applicants of the competition for social projects from among students, alumni, employees of NU, as well as representatives of the Social Development Fund

The following 12 projects for a total amount of KZT 11 million became the winners of the competition.

Kok Maisa, Project Leader – Zhanar Kulzhanova, graduate of the NU Graduate School of Business, MBA. The Project goal is to increase environmental awareness, familiarize with the principles of “zero waste” and inculcate eco-habits among schoolchildren in Nur-Sultan.

Alaqan, Project Leader – Gaukhar Kiikova, student of the NU Graduate School of Education, PhD in Education, 2nd year. The Project is aimed at informing and supporting parents of children from 0 to 6 years old on formation of healthy habits by children in five areas: physical activity, screen time, free play, water regime and consumption of vegetables and fruits

Speak Qazaq – creation of an online platform for teaching children of 5-10 years old the Kazakh language. The Project Leader – Dinara Ibrayeva, a graduate of the NU School of Engineering and Digital Sciences, Master of Science.

SauattyKeleşek, Project Leader – Zhuldyz Orazymbetova, employee of the Nazarbayev University Library. The Project is aimed at formation of knowledge, skills and abilities of school librarians and students of Akmola region in the field of media and information literacy, as well as inclusion.

Iz Project (“iz” in Kazakh means “way”) aims to support adolescents from among the Kandas and their parents through videos on social networks about opportunities and career choices in Kazakhstan, migration issues and integration into Kazakhstani society. Project Leader – Іnkar Bakhytnur, a graduate of the NU School of Engineering and Digital Sciences.

RemiSee, Project Leader – Malika Vasilova, student of the NU School of Natural, Social and Human Sciences, 2nd year. The Project goal is to ensure availability of high-quality scientific education in the Kazakh language. To this end, the Project seeks to create a complex product consisting of the online educational platform, printed materials and social initiatives based on volunteers.

In Qazaq (IQ) is a project that offers relevant, useful content in the Kazakh language on the Internet in order to popularize the state language. The Project Leader is Beibit Zharylgasyn, student of the NU School of Engineering and Digital Sciences, 3rd year.

FomoDoma is a podcast about personal finance and investment. Project Leader is Indira Kyilybayeva, a graduate of the NU Graduate School of Public Policy. The Project aims to provide as many Kazakhstanis as possible with access to up-to-date, understandable information about finance.

Jarqyn.me, Project Leader – Gulbakhyt Tursymbayeva, a graduate of the NU School of Sciences and Humanities. The Project purpose is to train and support initiative groups among students of Almaty universities to help strengthen the psychological health of young people in 3 universities.

Tiny Greens, Project Leader – Zarema Balgabekova – 4th year student of the NU School of Engineering and Digital Sciences of NU. The Project goal is to involve pensioners in Nur-Sultan in active and social life in the post-pandemic period, to improve their health and show them possibility of additional earnings in retirement through cultivation of microgreens.

Access to quality education is a project that will help 12 children from socially vulnerable categories of the population to apply for a grant to the best Kazakhstani universities. Project Leader is Arnur Gadylbekov, a graduate of the NU School of Engineering and Digital Sciences.

InfoSauattylyq. Project Leader is Alexander Andryukov, an employee of the Nazarbayev University Library. The Project is aimed at raising awareness among universities of the Republic of Kazakhstan about academic honesty and conducting webinars and courses in information literacy and critical thinking for university students. We kindly recall that the Jas Social Impact competition is held with the aim of supporting social innovation in the Nazarbayev University community. This year, thanks to the NU/NIS + 1 principle, participants of the competition were able to include representatives of other universities and external experts in their project teams. A total of 26 applications were received, almost half of them received funding and will be implemented by the end of 2022.
